Recently a gentleman bought into the workshop his treasured vintage Gibson ES175, but when he opened the case there was two pieces in there, the body and the neck. The instrument had fallen to the stage floor while being played at a gig, one reason being that the strap button was fixed into an already weakened neck joint, the strap button screw went in,to the join between the heel and the body and over some time this joint has fatigued, the button screw has pulled out under the weight of the guitar being played and hit the floor with the headstock resulting in the the necks dovetail joint breaking apart and in doing so damaging the neck block and the dovetail tenon.
I’ll post some pics of the damaged components and also of the guitar back to playing condition, needless to say that my customer is very happy to have his favourite guitar back.
